Hunting Seals
Over the last 10 years people have been killing seals for food and clothing especially the pups. The pups are endangered from the hunters killing them. They then skin them and then send the skins to a factory and then being made into nice woolly clothes. The adult seals are being killed mostly for their meat. If this continues the seals will become extinct.

Our Wetlands Excursion

Kinder and Year One went to the Wetlands on a bus. We went to the theatre and Doc talked about what we might see that day. We had morning tea after the theatre. After morning tea we had some activities. The activities were called dipnetting and canoeing. My class went into a classroom where there were microscopes, a TV scope, puppets and tweezers to make a nest. There was a bit of snake skin as well. Morgan and I got cameras.

The liturgy was very respectful and the chior was great at singing the songs.
Making A Site for Antarctica
In Term 2 we have been learning about Antarctica in HSIE.
So we decided to make a site about Antarctica in our year 5 lab time.
We had to make the Account and then make the site.
We have to put infomation in our own words instead of copying from the internet and taking credit for the work other people have done.
Some of the things we have to write about are:
Discovery
Douglas Mawson
Antarctica Bases
General Issues
Year 5 loved making the Antarctica Site
IT WAS LOTS OF FUN!!!!!!!

Friendship

At St Patrick's School Lochinvar we are all very good friends. We have lots of fun together and have no particular group. We have our days with other groups but we all know we are friends. There are heaps of girls and boys who like to play with each other and we have heaps and heaps of fun. Sometimes we have our differences but we know we will be friends the next day!!!!!!!!!!
My favourite thing at St Patrick's is our friendship!!!!!!!!!
Fitness is Fun!
Football Posts Are A Winner!
We have fantastic football posts at the bottom playground which make playing footy heaps of fun . You can also play soccer and run on the field. When we do PE, we also use the posts for running and a circuit. Next to the football posts is the sports shed where you can borrow heaps of equipment to really enjoy the footy posts and the rest of the playground.
Our Playground is Tops!

The thing I like most about St. Patrick's is the amount of playing area that we have to play on.
We have a footy field and 2 playgrounds and lots of soft grass to play on. The basketball court is used for many different sports and activities, but mainly handball. The grass in the morning is generally too wet to play on so we use the basketball for handball instead.

science day

On the 24th March, Mitch showed us how to use electricity, hands on. Year 5 saw Mitch create electricity with a lemon, an old 5 cent coin and a nail. It showed how much energy was used. Amber and Bailey were an example of human electricity. Bailey touched Amber's nose and it worked but when Amber touched his pocket, it didn't work. Next Zac and Courtney had a go using static electricity on their heads and it worked on Courtney's hair but not on Zac's. Why! Courtney had hair spray on and Zac's hair was wet. Then he showed us the most powerful magnet in the world and it could hold a bowling ball. WE WERE AFRAID IT WOULD DROP ON US ALL! Then we had to make our own groups and there were different types of power forces around the room. When the show was finished WE WERE AMAZED BY THE POWER AND THE ELECTRICITY WAS IN THE AIR!

Today, two ladies from the Maitland Mecury came to Year 4 to talk about justice because our topic this term is justice. Amelia, Saxon, Joshua, Zac, Joseph and I talked with them and told them what we have been learning. Once that was finished they took our photos and left.
We are going to be in the paper next Tuesday.

The New Playground Equipment
Today, the new playground equipment at our school was finished. There is climbing equipment and other fun things to do on it. What good timing for the miserable rain and weather! The students would have been able to play on it today but it rained and was too wet to go out. The students can't wait for the rain to stop!
Year 6 Young Leaders Day
On Wednesday the 25th of March the 4 school leaders went to the Therry Centre for a young leaders day. We had a special guest speaker and her name was Olivia Gollan, gold medal cyclist.
